Visitors to R3MAF who may have clicked upon the Links Page over recent years will have noted that the links on display have been typically listed under three subcategories i.e. Camera Manufacturers, Camera Accessories, and the equally enigmatically titled... Other Websites.
It's unusual to receive feedback for simply providing a link to another website, but many have taken the time and effort to drop a line or two thanking R3MAF for bringing the GU website to their attention. More gratifying is the fact that they also feel compelled to wax lyrical about the stunning content on George’s website - care of his very impressive galleries of superb illustrations and beguiling oil paintings.
Once viewed it's not difficult to see why George Underwood is one of my favourite British artists, and as the creator of literally dozens of book covers and iconic music album covers (see below for just a few examples) I would venture that many readers of this blog are already admirers of George’s considerable artistic talents and perhaps not know it.

However it’s George's ethereal and otherworldly figurative oil paintings that really stand out for me as being at the vanguard of his always unique and compelling work ...and in my opinion it would appear that Mr Underwood is simply getting better and better with the passing of the years.

As you'll see in the small collection of paintings below, there’s a degree of detail in the minutiae of his brush work and an impeccable use of colour which also co-exists with often surreal wonderful play of light, that to my eye is reminiscent of the finer portrait painters of previous centuries. Many international exhibitions, and prestigious invites to show at institutions such as the illustrious Royal Academy and The Royal Society of British Artists would seem to bear testament to that opinion too.

Postscript:
As a young student the author studied History of Art specialising in the Italian Renaissance period from Giotto to the Big Three i.e. Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael. His passion for architecture, painting and sculpture of all periods, schools, and movement has continued unabated ever since - and over the years he has been fortunate to visit some of the world’s finest art galleries and museums. Sadly he cannot paint to save his life ...unless it involves a tin of Dulux and a paint roller!
